No. 881 Yan’an Road (opposite the majestic Shanghai Exhibition Center) is dominated by an enormous stone mansion from 1930s Shanghai. Much of the ornately carved interior paneling is intact, but a cutting-edge bar area occupies the center hall. Upstairs, private VIP rooms accommodate both dining and business meetings, and customized menus are available by request.
Just across the mansion’s lawn is a contemporary building sculpted of wood and glass – the main dining space at 881. Japanese design house Super Potato (which also designed Pu-J’s at the Grand Hyatt Shanghai and Nadaman at the Pudong Shangri-la Hotel) chose a natural theme for 881.
881 has raised the bar for fine dining another notch – a world-class experience for Shanghai’s sophisticated diners.
