Lawrence Leung's Shanghai addition to the Zen family, which includes other well-known cousins: Zen (Hong Kong) Zen w3 and Zen Central (London), and Now & Zen (San Francisco).
Of the 3 Zen locations in Shanghai, we prefer the food at the Nanjing Xi Lu branch. Our favorites include:
- Fresh steamed shrimp dumplings (dong sun xian xia jiao) - each one has a perfect. skin and two plump shrimp inside. 20RMB
- Grilled goose (shao e) - crispy skin and juicy, succulent meat. Not on the dim sum menu, so ask for it.
- Baked Chicken & Abalone Pie (bao yu ji su) - think of a realy, really good bite-sized pot pie. 18RMB.
For out of towners, you will be happy to know delicious that Zen's dim sum is just across the street from the Ritz-Carlton Portman complex.
