Tucked away on a lane just off of Huashan Lu is a FuturePerfect, a Shanghai newcomer worth the extra effort to find. We can only imagine what a summer afternoon or evening is going to be like on the intimate patio.
From the moment you enter the space and see the corrugated cardboard chairs, to the fun menu, with descriptions that sometimes require deciphering (the Cow-A-Holic is really Beef Carpaccio), a FuturePerfect succeeds in filling a unique niche within Shanghai's restaurant scene.
We tried many dishes, and thought every one was worthy of recommending. But what we unexpectedly came away with was the best burger we've had in Shanghai. A 220g home-made US sirloin beef beauty on a toasted, homemade, sunflower bun.
Other notable dishes included: the seafood chowder bread bowl, asparagus proscuitto, lamb gnocchi, and bruschetta crisps. And, of course, the bread - as a FuturePerfect has an on-premises bakery that bakes some of the best bread in town.
Reservations are highly recommended and as part of the perfect future - you can make reservations online by visiting www.afutureperfect.com.cn.
