Cotton Ding came from the rural Hunan province to the big Shanghai city a few years ago, where she first was a bartender at Blue Frog before becoming Manager. Soon thereafter, she left to open her own bar on Yueyang Lu, which was a neighborhood favorite. Unfortunately for all of us, Cotton was forced out of her original location and closed on December 31, 2004.
The good news is Cotton is now back - bigger and better than before in a beatiful new space on Anting Lu. We were told the Cotton's new villa once housed the first mayor of Shanghai, and the lovely garden outside will be a crowd favorite come the warmer spring and summer months.
