Best of Food - Pizza: Wood Burning Oven

There are those who love Papa John's, Domino's, and other pizzas cooked in gas ovens. And then there are the rest of us, who know that only a wood burning oven can cook a pizza perfectly, with light and crispy crust. So, here is our list of the best Pizza in Shanghai (wood burning ovens only):

That's Amore
(Calabria). The best pizza place we have found in Shanghai is That’s Amore on Taikang Rd. Angelo, an Italian owner has trained the staff to use the wood-fired oven to perfection. And since Angelo is from Calabria, it was obvious to us that we should try the Pizza Calabria, which did not disappoint. If you want the best pizza in Shanghai, head to That’s Amore..

Da Marco (Original Location)
We opted for a pizza with Prosciutto, and it definitely was a great call. Da Marco’s wood-fired pizza (at the original, larger location on Dong Zhu'An Bang Lu) was the best we’d had in Shanghai. That is, until we visited That’s Amore.

Pasta Fresca Da Salvatore (Hengshan Lu)
(Apuila). Although we’ve passed this place many times, we finally went in to try the pie. And, what a pleasant surprise it was. We had the Quattro Stagione (4 Stations) which included: Artichoke hearts, olives, mushrooms, and sliced ham. Although the pie was a little smaller than Da Marco or That’s Amore, it was still an excellent choice.

Jimix:Seve
(Roma). Another one of Shanghai’s wood fired pizza ovens can be found at Jimi:Seve’s. We ordered a pie and it was somewhat smaller than what you’ll get at either That’s Amore or Da Marco, but nevertheless, the crust was cooked perfectly and it is one of Shanghai’s best pizzas.
